The Independence Day of India is a moment to cherish for all the residents of India and pay gratitude towards the freedom fighter, but to achieve such victory they had to battle against the ruling British people. On 3rd June 1947, the last British Viceroy, Lord Mountbatten, declared that India was separated from the rule of British power .The announcement was held under Indian Independence Act ,that was made in the year of 1947.15th August 1947 symbolizes the victory of Indian against the dominating rule of the British powers. All the citizens of India joined hands and fought to attain the independence and achieved great success to get freedom from the rule of British government.

Independence Day celebrations bring the essence of patriotic feeling in our minds. Every year this glorious day is celebrated on the 15th of August and it revives the old memories about the hard work and struggle of all the freedom fighters. On this day of Indian Independence, the nation attained freedom from the governing British Rule. This day is celebrated with great pride, enthusiasm and high spirits across the country and is marked as a very important day in Indian History and so called INDEPENDENCE DAY or ‘SWADHINTA DIWAS’. Every year on August 15, the whole of India joins hands irrespective of caste, creed, and religion to pay homage to our freedom fighters who have devoted their lives and brought us freedom from the British Rule. Independence Day celebrations in India 2014 will mark the 68th year of celebration in India. Indians dedicate this day to all the heroes of the country who have laid down their lives, so that we can breathe in free India and enjoy the essence of independence.


There are also certain rituals that are carried out on this day in India. Independence Day celebrations are more or less the same in the whole country. The Prime Minister of India hoists the tri-colour flag every year at the Red Fort and delivers a speech addressing the whole nation. As part of 15th August celebrations, the President of India also delivers a speech on the eve of 15th August. In 2014, President Pranab Kumar Mukherjee will deliver his first speech for Independence Day to the nation.

Every city, state and even the village folks of our country celebrate this day with great pride and enjoyment. They give their salutations to the national flag, sing the national anthem and pay tribute to all the freedom fighters. Tricolor and traditional sweets are distributed among all friends and office colleagues. Cultural events are organized in various parts of the country. Most importantly, schools and colleges organize various functions to celebrate this national occasion. Children participate in various functions honoring the soldiers of the country of the nation. There are many programmes on television too, that focus on this special day.
